The Mariners have now won games in this series against the Astros with a classic one-run win, a late-inning comeback, and a walkoff. We’d take a nice comfortable multi-run easy win, but that’s just not how these two teams play, so anything that secures the mop (recall that winning three of three is a sweep, but four of four is a mop, this is canon) is just fine with us.
Lineups:
The Astros are sending rookie Spencer Arrighetti to the hill. Despite his inexperience, Arrighetti is a tough matchup for the Mariners, as he throws a kitchen sink arsenal heavy on the curveball. He can also walk a fair number of batters, so (stop me if you’ve heard this before) not chasing his secondaries and looking for the four-seamer (.576 SLG against) will be key today.
Cal is back doing the catching again today, after Mitch Garver got his first start behind the dish last night. With Garver back in the DH spot today, Haniger is sliding over to his usual stomping ground in right, with Canzone shifting to left. Canzone’s outfield prowess has been on full display this year, with last night’s diving catch in the eighth.
News:
Luke Raley is getting a day off to tend to a sore lat, per Scott Servais. Sore lats are typically caused by upper-body strain. Like you get from lifting heavy things.
