Hello all and happy Friday! Time to dig in to the baseball news.

In Mariners news...

  • Former Mariners reliever Sam Tuivailala is joining the organization as a scout!
  • The Mariners reportedly turned down the Red Sox when Boston came calling about Logan Gilbert and George Kirby, though it’s unclear if they did so because they will not entertain the idea of trading them at all or because they didn’t see a particular fit with the Red Sox.

Around the league...

  • The Dodgers and Rays reportedly completed the previously-rumored trade sending Tyler Glasnow to Los Angeles, contingent on the right-hander signing a contract extension with the Dodgers, which he is expected to do.
  • Right-hander Jack Flaherty is reportedly headed to Detroit on a one-year deal.
  • The Rangers might not be players for any major free agent this winter, but they did sign Tyler Mahle to a two-year contract to bolster their starting rotation depth.
  • Milwaukee and Kansas City completed a minor swap that sent reliever Taylor Clarke to the Brewers.
  • The Reds agreed to a one-year deal with backstop Austin Wynns.
  • Former Mariners outfielder Shin-Soo Choo will retire following the 2024 KBO season.
  • The St. Petersburg city council has been discussing the idea of renaming the Tampa Bay Rays the St. Petersburg Rays.
  • The Red Sox have apparently been sitting out of the starting pitching market to this point because they are placing all of their chips on Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
  • Jake Mintz at FOX Sports dug into the pitch data that makes Yamamoto such a sought-after player.
