Welcome back to another FanPost Friday - PLAYOFF PUSH EDITION (TM). Well, friends, it was a most curious week in Mariners-land as the team did themselves no favors by losing three out of four games against the Royals at home (while allowing Salvador Perez four home runs in those four games, including two grand slams), but then surprised just about everyone by winning two out of three against the first-place Astros. How did they beat the Astros? Abraham freakin’ Toro, that’s how. Toro entered the baseball history books with this lil’ fun fact:

It was truly delectable.

Anywho, so even after tripping down the stairs, the Mariners still managed to be cat-like and land on their feet and end the week almost where they had started at 10 games over .500.

So! Before we update our Mariners VIBE CHECK, let’s look at last week’s results.

Even before the Royals debacle, there were a few more naysayers who crept in compared to the previous week. Still, the vibe overall was somewhere in between curious/optimistic and healthy skepticism. Team No One Believes In Us still had a strong showing, and I’m curious to see how that fares this time.

I appreciate all the love and support for the teal uniforms in the other polls last week. Your excellent sartorial taste is noted and appreciated.

Finally, to shift gears for a moment, I want to call attention to this FanPost regarding staff writer Tim Cantu. Tim is fiercely fighting cancer, but things are rough. I know cancer has unfortunately touched the lives of many LLers, either directly or through close family and friends. Many of you know how hard this fight can be and how big of a toll it takes on the patient and their whole family and support system. Tim is a proud (and highly reasonable!) Catholic, so if you pray, please pray for him. If you are not religious, please send all of your best, most positive energy and happy thoughts his way. It’s hard to believe that I’ve only met Tim once in person, yet I’ve spent so many years with him online talking about and then covering this stupid baseball team together. I feel like I’ve known him for decades. I have so much respect, fondness, and love for him. Tim is a beloved member of this staff and the LL community at large. We got your back, Tim, no matter what. Let’s go #TeamTim!
