FanPost Friday: Return of the Living Belief Check

It’s almost spooky season and these Mariners have risen from the dead yet again to feed on the walking wounded of the AL West

There’s only one way to sum up the last week of Mariners baseball. Take it away, Al.

With their backs to wall after losing series to Arizona, Boston, and then failing to sweep Kansas City (but hey, they did not let Salvador Perez destroy them! Woo!), the Mariners had to stare down a 4-game series in the mostly vacant turd-box coliseum in Oakland. Was this going to be 2021’s Waterloo for these Seattle Mariners. No. Jarred Kelenic, Kyle Seager, Mitch Haniger, Luis Torrens, and Paul mf’n Sewald had other plans.

If you ever need a solid dose of schadenfreude, LL commenter PyramidHeadFevisen captured an incredible .gif of the A’s dugout looking about as dejected, sad, and mad as possible and I, for one, cannot get enough of it.

I’m re-posting this because it’s the most perfect thing I’ve ever seen. Thank you @zachleft.

Basically every season from 2002 on, the Oakland Athletics have been there to bury the Mariners any time they’ve been remotely competitive. It’s feels really good to see the Mariners return the favor for once. Granted, the A’s have another chance next week to take a Oakland Coliseum-sized dump on the Mariners, but at the very least, the A’s have been effectively removed from Wild Card contention at 4 games back and they know it.

Well, that’s enough dragging of the A’s for now, let’s take a look at last week’s BELIEF CHECK which went in the direction I’m sure everyone was expecting:

To the 22 NO ONE BELIEVES IN US voters, I salute you for keeping the faith. I do appreciate that the biggest turnout still includes hedging our bets with the “....unless???” because why the heck not, right?

So this week’s results should be interesting as the Mariners rushed the Wild Card standings like a horde of the undead, seeking cold vengeance against their AL West foes and feeding on their playoff hopes. For maybe the last time (for real? unless???) this season, let’s do this BELIEF CHECK!

After the last week of games, how are you feeling about the playoff chances of these Seattle Mariners?
