Welp, that last home stand did not go as we all hoped. Is it over? Not statistically! Is it probably over? Well, yes. A 12-4 record over the final 16 games would probably clinch a playoff spot, or even a slightly worse record depending how the other Wild Card teams play. But, at no point this season have these Seattle Mariners shown that they are a team who can tear off a 12-4 streak at any given moment. No, that would require a much, much deeper and more talented lineup, as John got discussed yesterday, and this roster simply does not have it. Crazy things happen in baseball, yes, but I’m guessing this week’s BELIEF CHECK will be quite the opposite of last week’s results.

Speaking of, the NO ONE BELIEVES IN US factor went through the freakin’ roof last week and it makes very happy that people were willing to buy in, but also sad because of what happened with Arizona and Boston. No matter how many times it happens in sports fandom, it always sucks to have your hopes and dreams stomped on.

Last week’s poll:

Also, I may very well have cursed us with this one. My bad. And to the 131 of you chose the last option, I HOPE YOU’RE HAPPY.

But hey, that’s right, it ain’t over ‘til it’s over!

On that note, here’s this week’s BELIEF CHECK poll, which may very well be the last one. We’ll see!

After the last week of games (shudder), how are you feeling about the playoff chances of these Seattle Mariners?

Moving along, the Mariners made a big ol’ announcment this week that Seattle will host the 2023 All-Star Game and festivities. This is a big deal! Many Mariners fans were babies or perhaps not born yet the last time Seattle hosted the ASG. Look at these absolute beauts from 2001!

All right, that’s all for me. Keep on raging against the dying of the light, Mariners, and please don’t throw any hittable pitches to Salvador Perez. Thanks.
