the must-sweep series continues

MLB: Seattle Mariners at Arizona Diamondbacks Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

If you haven’t been scoreboard watching (and really, do you have a good reason not to be?), here’s a quick summary: the A’s lost to Texas after blowing a 6-2 lead, the Orioles lost the first game of their doubleheader in an absolutely wild 11-10 final against the Blue Jays, and both the Yankees and Red Sox are up by five against the Mets and White Sox, respectively. Not a lot of fun compared to yesterday. With that, the need for the Mariners to keep winning ratcheted up a couple of notches, and if they see Humberto Castellanos anything like they did last Saturday, they should be in good shape.

Mariners PR

After a brutal game last night and a righty on the mound for Arizona, I was half-expecting Mitch Haniger to have the day off while José Marmolejos and Jake Bauers manned the corner outfield spots. Partial credit for me! Haniger is DH’ing tonight, which unfortunately takes Luis Torrens out of the lineup, though I could see him pinch-hitting for Marmo if a late-game matchup calls for it, with Dylan Moore waiting to come into left field. Cal Raleigh is making his first start in a few days, as well, and wouldn’t it be nice if he broke out of his 0-for-20 stretch? The main highlight of the Diamondbacks lineup is Seth Beer getting the start at DH after opening his big league career with a pinch-hit solo shot last night, and their batting order has become a lot less hateable with Henry Ramos riding the bench. Let’s keep the good times rolling!
