It’s been said multiple times this season, but man, last night may have been the best win of the year. From a sterling performance by Yusei Kikuchi to Abraham Toro crushing a grand slam off of the reliever he was traded for, you can’t ask for much more than that.
Well, I guess you can, because I’m asking the Mariners to start September off on a winning note and clinch this series.
Aside from Jake Bauers and Cal Raleigh being swapped out for Luis Torrens and Tom Murphy, the lineup today for Seattle remains unchanged, and Mitch Haniger is back in right field. Logan Gilbert has struggled in each of his last three starts, but somewhat puzzlingly, Houston has just three left-handed hitters in their lineup today. It might be a tall order, but if Logan can get his fastball command back and have a good grasp of his slider, he could have a nice bounce back outing after a rough August. Jake Odorizzi is on the hill for the Astros, and despite owning a FIP near 5, shut down the Mariners on August 21st, holding them to just one run over 5.2 innings while pitching around four hits and four walks. Here’s hoping they can knock him off that tightrope a little earlier this time around.
