Happy weekend! I don’t know about you, but this felt like the longest short week I can remember. I’m very excited to sit down and watch our ace* dominate** against the Los Angeles*** Angels.
* - one-time ace, permanent designation is up in the air right now
** - see above
*** - technically Anaheim
Fortunately for the Mariners, this series against the Angels won’t include Mike Trout, who remains on the shelf with a calf strain. It’s unclear if Justin Upton, who will miss this weekend’s games, being out will be a positive or a negative for the M’s, though the highly-paid and one-time-almost-Mariner has rebounded this year with a 124 wRC+.
Still no word on when Mike Trout will start his rehab assignment, Maddon said. He'll continue his workouts through the All-Star break and then they'll reassess. Justin Upton is also expected to be out through this weekend with his lower back strain.

The other Mariners news of the day is that Damon Casetta-Stubbs, local boy made good after he was selected in the 11th round a few years ago, was announced as the PTBNL sent to Cleveland for Jake Bauers. DCS has shown flashes of brilliance amidst an overall inconsistent season in Modesto this season (12.84 K/9, but 5.98 BB/9 and a 6.42 ERA in nine starts), and even though it remains unlikely that he’ll be a big league starter some day, that feels like a heftier return for a 25-year-old with a 61 wRC+ in 2021.
With that said, lineups!
