We’re just past the actual halfway point and have one more series to go with the still Trout-less Angels before most of the league gets a nice few days off and a handful of players get to go hit dingers and play an exhibition game at Coors Field. But, we’re not here to talk about the All-Star Game on this here FanPost Friday. We’re here to talk about the 2021 Seattle Mariners and give out superlatives for first-half performances.
A few weeks ago, we covered biggest surprises and biggest disappointments from the Mariners so far. I did some non-scientific counting of picks from the comments, and here are my results ranked by top vote-getters.
Biggest Surprise of 2021
- J.P. Crawford
- Yusei Kikuchi
- Chris Flexen
Biggest Disappointment of 2021
- 3-way tie between Evan White, James Paxton, and Justus Sheffield
- Kyle Seager
- Luis Torrens (specific mentions of his catching performance)
So, we’ve covered that one, but I’ve got some more categories for y’all to think about. Use whatever parameters you prefer for all categories. Please copy and paste the following list into a comment and give us your answers. Let’s go!

One last thing before I go, last week’s poll was a ton of fun and I appreciate everyone chiming in with their favorite one-season Mariners players. I still cannot believe I left RICKEY HENDERSON off the poll. Just a massive oversight by me. But anyways, the clear winner and still champion of our hearts...the one, the only....DAE-HO LEE!!!

Lots of love out there for runner-ups Bucky Jacobson, Cliff Lee, Denard Span, John Jaso, and Jose Cruz, Jr. Oh, what could have been. They’re all forever Mariners in our hearts.
That’s all for this week. Go Mariners, boo the Angels, and congrats to Yusei Kikuchi on his All-Star Game nomination!
