Last night’s disaster is behind us, a tragically predictable meltdown of LHP Justus Sheffield against the New York Yankees near-pure RHH wrecking crew. Today at least, the Seattle Mariners kick it up a notch and run out their best pitcher, Yusei Kikuchi for a hopeful series balancer. While it is undoubtedly treacherous once again to run a lefty against the Bronx Bombers, Kikuchi’s season thus far is encouraging enough to think he could hold his own, and the M’s have an added edge with scheduled Yankees starter RHP Domingo Germán requiring an “emergency root canal”, forcing an impromptu bullpen game for New York.

Nelson has a starter’s track record through the minors, primarily with a fastball and changeup profile. That said, he’s only made one start in the major leagues thus far in twenty appearances, and shouldn’t be fully stretched out.
