The dust has settled from a wild trade deadline, and while the Mariners didn’t add beyond Abraham Toro, Tyler Anderson, and Diego Castillo, I feel that the team improved in 2021 without trading any of their top prospects. Sure, it’s not fun or super flashy, but after seeing the price for a guy like José Berríos, I’m alright with keeping guys like Noelvi Marte and Emerson Hancock. Disappointing end to the homestand on Wednesday aside, tonight the M’s begin a tough road trip - but their first stop is by far the easiest.
Boy oh boy is that a bare-bones Rangers lineup. With Joey Gallo being shipped to the Yankees, Texas’s bats consist of Adolis García - who has been in a big slump since the calendar flipped to July - and a bunch of flotsam. With a righty in the perpetual red-ass Kolby Allard on the mound, I’m a little surprised to see Tom Murphy catching while Cal Raleigh rides the pine, especially with Logan Gilbert on the mound. Nonetheless, Luis Torrens makes his return to the fifth spot in the order, and Abraham Toro will look to homer in his fifth straight game. Sure would be nice after a draining 48 hours or so to stomp these guys! Let’s see if they’re up to it.
