7/3/21: SEA vs. TEX open game thread

Marco back!

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays at Seattle Mariners Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

After a thrilling game last night, the Mariners will try to extend their winning streak behind new proud papa Marco Gonzales. In order to do that, they’ll have to get past Jordan Lyles, whose overall season numbers are dampened by a pair of dismal back-to-back outings early on where he surrendered 12 total runs in under seven combined innings, but is fresh off tossing seven innings of one-run ball against the Royals.

It’s a leftypalooza tonight for the Mariners with the righty Lyles on the mound; Texas is countering with their most righty-heavy lineup. With both teams going deep into their bullpens in last night’s extra-innings affair, the victor here will likely be the team that’s able to leave their starter in longer and have to draw upon an already taxed bullpen less.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:10 PT and can be found in the usual places (710 ESPN on the radio, ROOT Sports NW on TV), which thank goodness, because the horror of the YouTube game reminded me of the Facebook game against Texas in 2018, do y’all remember that? Of course you do because you read Isabelle’s recap of the YouTube game, which referenced Tim’s recap of the cursed Facebook game, but in case you didn’t click on it for some reason, here it is again. The 2018 season is one that truly, deeply broke me, but at least it gave us that.
