Good morning everyone! It’s our last day before the second half begins for the Mariners. Let’s get you the latest on this Thursday.

- Mariners third round draft pick Michael Morales is ready to embrace the analytical bent of the Seattle development system.
- The M’s have added another prospect to the system.
The Seattle Mariners have signed University of Maryland outfielder Randy Bednar to an UDFA deal. Bednar hit .317 with 7 homers and 10 stolen bases in 33 games for the Terrapins in 2021. Controls the zone well. Above average runner. Sneaky pop. Best slated for LF. pic.twitter.com/DzSzqYF8Zb

- The first organizational casualty for the Mariners is Shane Carle, who was released from his minor league deal as the team tries to make room for the incoming draft picks.
Around the league...
- This high school prospect from Mill Creek is impressing a lot of scouts.
The first time in my career I’ve written “80” next to the BP power projection grade on a prep prospect. I took 2 notes and then sat back and enjoyed the show. Loud doesn’t do it justice. #PGNational https://t.co/UZTbs2mwPD

- We need more of this in baseball.
Wonder why the AL infield was shifting in the All-Star Game?
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) July 14, 2021
Apparently Nelson Cruz, who was idle in the dugout, decided on a whim to coach the infield and shift them based on his knowledge.
"I was calling. I was moving them, 'You go here, you go here.' They let me do it."
- Ashley MacLennan at Fangraphs wonders if Hollywood can help baseball become more appealing to young audiences.
- Sam Blum at The Athletic spoke to Daron Sutton, the Diamondbacks-turned-Angels broadcaster who got fired from Anaheim after just four months. ($)
- Trevor Bauer’s administrative leave has been extended once again as the league continues to investigate his case.
League source confirms MLB and MLBPA have agreed to extend Trevor Bauer’s admin leave to July 27th.

Boston Red Sox top prospect Jarren Duran is expected to join the team in New York tomorrow and he could make his MLB debut against the Yankees, according to a source familiar with the situation.

- Top Yankees prospect Jasson Dominguez is headed to Low-A Tampa following his Futures Game appearance. The teenager has just 20 at-bats in minor league ball to this point.
