Wowwww what a game last night. Make sure to read Grant’s recap if you haven’t, and all praise Rally Kid. In the meantime, here are today’s links:
In Mariners news:
- The latest Baseball America mock draft has the Mariners taking Colton Cowser (OF Sal Frelick from Boston College and Texas RHP Ty Madden are both off the table already in this mock). I wouldn’t hate that, but also, wow the draft starts tomorrow!
- The Mariners signed 3B Liam Sabino to a minor league contract. Sabino was drafted in 2015 in a round that no longer exists, the 25th round, similar to his college roommate and current Seattle Mariner minor-leaguer, Penn Murfee. Sabino is born to Brazilian and Dominican immigrant parents and played for Team Brazil for a while, and his Instagram has more of his interesting life.
Around the league:
- Congratulations to former Mariner Taijuan Walker, who will be an All-Star this year. Walker takes the place of teammate Jacob DeGrom for the National League pitching cadre. We love to see it! Congratulations, Taijuan!
- Carlos Correa, who turned down his All-Star spot wanting to spend more time with his pregnant wife, has also been placed on the health and safety ineligible list. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a positive COVID test, but it is a sickness-related IL stint rather than an injury IL stint.
- Per reports, Beef Boy Derek Dietrich is signing a minor-league contract with the Washington Nationals.
- The Cubs are apparently going to be sellers at the trade deadline, which we all suspected, but seems more real now. I will take one Kris Bryant, please.
Kate’s pick:
This is the dumbest thing ever and I cant stop singing it. Ske bop, ba dop, yeah.
