6/30/21: Open Game Thread

After today’s game comes to a close, we will officially be halfway through the 2021 regular season. It might just be me, but this year’s gone by much quicker than previous full seasons, and even faster than 2020’s 60-game sprint. Somehow, the Mariners have clinched a winning record through the halfway point, but if they want that coveted winning June record, they’ll have to pull out a win.

Once again, the Blue Jays’ lineup is pretty terrifying, and with all but Cavan Biggio swinging right-handed, Justus Sheffield will really need that good changeup to survive a couple turns through the order. Jake Bauers is back in the lineup after a day off, Jake Fraley is resting, and Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens have swapped positions. Hopefully, Luis can continue his lefty-mashing ways against Steven Matz.

Today’s game is a little weird in that it won’t be broadcast on ROOT Sports or Sportsnet; instead, it will be exclusively broadcast on YouTube, with no blackout restrictions. Hooray, I guess? This at least feels more accessible than the Facebook-only games from a few years back. You can find the stream here, and it goes live at 3:30 for pregame festivities.
