on the road again...

What a whiplash the last couple weeks have been. A six-game losing streak, winning seven of their next eight, and then getting curbstomped by Sean Manaea last night? I can’t blame you if you’ve been going back and forth on this team. Tonight the M’s embark on another road trip, kicking things off with their first visit to Angel Stadium of the year.

Both lineups are leaning into the platoon school of thought - only two righty hitters, stalwarts Mitch Haniger and Ty France, are climbing in against Griffin Canning - and hello again, José Godoy! - while Shohei Ohtani and Jared Walsh are the two southpaws in against the lefty Sheffield. It’s striking how less fearsome Anaheim’s lineup is without Mike Trout - for all the complaints we’ve had about guys hitting too high up in the lineup, at least we’ve never had Juan Lagares hitting fifth. Canning has missed plenty of bats so far this year, but can get wild at times and has been bit by the home run bug often. If they can get to him early and Justus can have a nice bounce back after a pair of rough starts, we should be in business tonight, but never discount the possibility of Angel nonsense.
