5/6/21: Off-day Mariners Minor League Open Games Thread

I guarantee one of these four teams gets a hit today.

The Seattle Mariners have an off-day today, and if we’re being honest they had one yesterday too (cue laugh track). The M’s get to rest their flaccid offense, which now ranks 28th in MLB in fWAR (1.9) and wRC+ (88, which is 28th whether you count NL teams using pitchers or not), 29th in wOBA (.283) and OPS (.639), and 30th in BA (.201), average exit velocity (87.9), and hard hit rate (28.1%). Fortunately, we hope, improvements are on the way in both the short and long term, and many of the most exciting players expected to contribute to that offense (or keeping that offense in games on the other end) are in play tonight across the M’s minor league system.

As a result, I decided to throw up a minor league game thread. If you think you’d enjoy us doing this more often, please drop that in the comments and participate, and if nothing else we’ll make sure we’ve got one when the M’s are off if we can. All four games are blessedly televised by MiLB.TV, which I must recommend you acquire if you have the means. The lineups and game times are embedded below, with Arkansas just starting moments ago.

Tonight features a few exciting debuts, including Emerson Hancock’s affiliated pro debut in Hillsboro (bless you, Hops, and your televised feed), the same for LHP Adam Macko in Modesto beyond some games at the club’s complex in Peoria, and oh yeah the start of the AAA-Tacoma season that happens to feature Jarred Kelenic leading off and playing left field. Yes, Paul Sewald will be making his first start after 402 professional appearances and no I don’t think that’s ideal, but Logan Gilbert starts tomorrow night and look just tune in for the offense if you must.
