It’s not every day the Seattle Mariners are heavy favorites going into a game that “TBD” was listed as the starter with pretty minimal enthusiasm. An intentional “bullpen game” is only an advantageous setup for Seattle against a few choice opponents, and they have another crack at one of the clubs projected to chase triple digit losses yet again: the Baltimore Orioles. When the M’s last linked up with the O’s, rainy conditions forced an awkward pair of seven inning doubleheaders which Seattle took three of four of. Today, with rain coming down all day in Seattle, the game has been de-hahaha just kidding the Mariners have a roof like responsible people, despite less annual rainfall than Baltimore! Yes, Camden Yards is a treasure, but figure it out.
Erik Swanson will get his first start since July 25th, 2019, where he was used in a similar role to what he will likely experience tonight: hoping to work 2-3 innings despite being more stretched out for bullpen use than starting, thanks to his prior history as a starter. Seattle’s bullpen will be tested, but hopefully with a light-hitting O’s lineup also down late scratch D.J. Stewart, they’ll be able to stretch a few guys effectively.
