This might come as a shock: the Mariners’ lineup over the past few days has been rough. While it obviously hasn’t helped that the Mariners were playing in a National League ballpark and Justin Dunn, Justus Sheffield, and Chris Flexen had to hit, it’s not like the Mariners had a particularly compelling designated hitter waiting in the wings to bat for those guys.
Well, Ty France is back today. The Mariners will be hoping he bats like he did pre-getting hit in the arm with a 98 MPH fastball. It would be hard for him to hit much worse than he did post-injury.
Lineups!

I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When we could hit and life was worth living
I dreamed Canó would never die
That Nelson Cruz would be forgiving
Well, this lineup looks like one of Scott Servais’ wet dreams, in that it is entirely composed of hitters that alternate handedness. That’s pretty much the nicest thing you could say about José Godoy and Donovan Walton. At least, it’s pretty much the nicest thing I’m willing to say about them.
The A’s lineup, on the other hand, wow. Every single hitter belongs on a Major League baseball field. Can you imagine? Every day, I become a little less capable of such dreams of grandeur.
