The Seattle Mariners have had an eventful few days, getting no-hit, turning over a good portion of their roster, then doing it again after a potential COVID-19 outbreak with one positive test and a trio of close contacts out for at least seven days. After being swept by one of the league’s worst teams, they get a chance to right the ship against a club on pace to win 99-100 games!

The San Diego Padres have glowed up dramatically and can be forgiven for seeing themselves as the Penn State to the Mariners’ Temple, which is a comparison that reads far differently if you are not a longtime college football fan but trust me it’s apt. Despite missing almost a full roster worth of players for much of the season, San Diego has done what many teams have failed to do, and far more have simply not even bothered to try: match the L.A. Dodgers in both star power and depth.

Tonight is Jacob Nottingham’s debut as a Mariner after plenty of to do, though he’ll handle 1B duties with Tom Murphy behind the dish. 25 year old RHP Chris Paddack will face 26 year old Chris Flexen in a matchup of pitchers just keeping their heads down and being decent. Oh, and hi Austin Nola, miss you.

Lineups!
