- FanGraphs has begun its first week of MLB power rankings, comparing teams in different tiers based on a unique new overall team quality metric.
- MLB has rejected the appeal of Nick Castellanos’ two-game suspension following his involvement in a benches-clearing incident earlier this month in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He will serve his full two-game suspension today and tomorrow.
- Miami Marlins OF Starling Marte has suffered a fractured rib and will not participate in baseball activities for five to seven days. The team will place him on the IL during that time, and re-evaluate him after.
- Washington Nationals veteran LHP Luis Avilan is set to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a tear in his elbow. Reliever Kyle McGowin has been called from the team’s alternate training site after Avilan was placed on the IL.
