I don’t know about the rest of you, but yesterday’s rainout bummed me out something fierce. Maybe I was still riding the high of Sunday’s wild win, or cursing the stormy East Coast while looking out my window to a beautiful Seattle spring day. That’s okay, though! We have a traditional doubleheader to look forward to today. Yes, the games are seven innings, but all “traditional” means in this context is that the second game starts shortly after the first one ends, and tickets sold are good for both games. As we all know, technically correct is the best kind of correct.

The Orioles are running the same lineup they had planned yesterday for Game 1, with one key difference: their ace John Means is on the hill. Means’s stuff isn’t super flashy - four-seam, changeup, curve is a pretty common arsenal for a lefty starting pitcher - but he posted three fWAR in 2019, had a solid 2020, and is off to a fabulous start in 2021, allowing just one run over 11.2 innings. He also has yet to give up an extra base hit, but with the Mariners countering with a righty-heavy lineup with some power - and Luis Torrens hitting cleanup! - there’s hope that streak will come to an end. Dean Kremer will be following him in Game 2, and although there’s no confirmation of lineups yet, I wouldn’t be shocked if it was the same as last night’s. José Marmolejos, Left Fielder lives on. Justus Sheffield is starting for the M’s as was planned yesterday, and Nick Margevicius will follow him for the nightcap. Sheffield’s need for ground balls is lessened somewhat thanks to a a better defensive outfield behind him today, but it would still behoove him to keep the ball out of the air in hitter-friendly Camden Yards.
