In which the Mariners face an old friend

Wow, that feels good. For the first time in what feels like a year and a half (I’m still maintaining that last season didn’t count), we have weekend brunch baseball.

It’s a type of baseball viewing experience that transcends all others. Rather than sink into the couch after a stressful and harried day to watch the Mariners do their best 1962 Mets impression, we have the pleasure of sipping a cup of tea or coffee to make sure that we’re fully awake to watch the Mariners do their best 1962 Mets impression.

On that note, lineups!

The good news: Yusei Kikuchi is pitching. He’s fun to watch! He might be good! The other good news: Michael Pineda is pitching against the Mariners. I’m sure he won’t mow through a Mariner lineup that looks eerily similar to the 2011 version for which Pineda pitched.

The bad news: José Marmolejos is batting cleanup again. Why. I don’t care that Michael Pineda is right handed. The other bad news: Sam Haggerty is playing left field. Why. Again, I do not care that Michael Pineda is right handed.

Sadly, it’s not like the team has much in the way of good alternatives. But seeing this lineup does put a damper on the brunch baseball enthusiasm! In just three short weeks, those names will hopefully be replaced by Kyle Lewis and Jarred Kelenic, and the very existence of a “Sam Haggerty” will just be a bad dream.
