Off season plan - or how to spend $130 million

The Plan

The basic assumption being made here is that the Mariners really do want to spend money on free agents, and that they are willing to spend up to a rough estimate of league average payroll: $130 million. The plan is also based on Dipoto's stated desire to leave the future core alone, so this is all about free agent signings, not trades.

What the plan involves is signing five players: Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, Seiya Suzuki, Marcus Stroman and Steven Matz. Bryant and Schwarber are proven MLB bats. Suzuki is a bit more of an unknown, but on first glance seems like a solid major league outfielder - too good to pass up. Stroman and Matz are significant upgrades to the rotation. Salary numbers for the free agents are just predictions, while the remaining players are based off of Spotrac numbers. It also is based on a 26 man roster, not the full payroll, but does include a couple extra players like Evan White and the Cano money still owed.
