Mariners Moose Tracks, 11/10/21: Luis Castillo, Clayton Kershaw, and Carlos Correa

It’s tough to act like today is any normal day. We’re still reeling at the loss of our dear friend Tim Cantu, who passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer early yesterday morning. Even behind the scenes Tim showed unrelenting strength of mind and spirit and never let his sickness weigh him down. He was always as bright and positive as ever, a shining example of how to handle hardship. I’ll remember that as well as I’ll remember his dear friendship and his undying love for his family and for the Seattle Mariners. My love goes out to his family including his wife Marie and his five children during this challenging time.

Tim would want us to continue producing content and to continue our excitement for this Mariners team. So, this one is for you, Tim. Rest easy, my friend.

• Jerry Dipoto spoke to the media at the GM meetings yesterday, giving a whole host of information on the team’s offseason plan which Ryan Divish at the Seattle Times broke down. Highlights include the M’s willingness to trade with a division rival, their likely pursuit of Seiya Suzuki and the stud shortstops, and updates on injured players.
• We also have some rumors from early this morning, connecting Seattle to one of the top pitchers on the trade market.

• Gerard Gilberto at MiLB reviewed George Kirby’s strong season in which he rose into the top 15 overall prospects at Baseball America.

• Craig Goldstein and Patrick Dubuque at Baseball Prospectus made the case for getting rid of the K-zone on TV broadcasts. ($)
• The A’s are expected to be major sellers this offseason, which is more good news for the Mariners.

• The bad news for Seattle is that the Rangers are hoping to spend in a big way this winter, potentially adding as much as $100 million to the payroll for 2022.
• For instance, the Rangers will likely be strong contenders for Clayton Kershaw’s services.

• Meanwhile, the Angels are expected to be major players in this year’s starting pitching market too.
• Carlos Correa is trying to make himself Public Enemy No. 1 in New York even though he might sign there!
