Things could have gone better last night. They could have gone better today, for that matter, with the Blue Jays trouncing the Orioles again and the Red Sox escaping another near-disaster against the Nationals. But fortunately, the Yankees lost yet again to the mighty Rays, meaning Seattle still has life if at least one of Boston or New York lose tomorrow. It’s not the best spot to be in, but it is unequivocally still a heartbeat.
Tonight’s game is, however, literally a must-win. The Seattle Mariners are well situated for that, with their best pitcher, Chris Flexen, facing inexperienced southpaw Jhonathan Díaz for the Angels. Seattle’s offense let them down last night, but hopefully the hit sequencing deities can be on Seattle’s side again as they have been for much of 2021. With their backs truly in the corner, the lineup is the same as last night, hopefully with better results.
