FanPost Friday: Mitch Haniger makes a statement & other early offseason polls

Who else is ready to run through some walls?

Thursday morning, the Lookout Landing staff slack channel came alive when Mitch Haniger posted his Players’ Tribune piece that was the embodiment of the “triumph” emoji.

Go ahead and read it if you haven’t yet. I’ll wait.

My initial reaction as a life-long Mariners fan was, “Oooh that’s a bold move there, Mitch, I dunno ‘bout all that.” Pessimism and lived-experience dies hard as a safety mechanism for not getting your hopes dashed. But, the more I read and the more I thought about it, I really came to appreciate Mitch for his honesty, vulnerability, and willingness to make that very bold statement. Hindsight be damned, there is no better time to be all-in on this team. If the front office buys into that and can be convinced to spend, then hell yes, we’re gonna have a lot of fun next season at the ballpark. So maybe by putting this all there publicly, Mitch has helped improved the team’s chances of making the narrative come true. Time will tell!
