Home is a state of mind.

The Mariners begin a series of fantastic pitching matchups with Yusei Kikuchi and Chris Paddack. It’s a rainy, end-of-smoggy day here in Seattle, but a more pleasant circumstance down in San Diego, where this “home” game will be held instead. This is the regular season’s penultimate weekend, shocking or not as that seems. Kikuchi has been a brilliant pitcher in every aspect except that runs keep scoring on him in rather unfortunate sequences, as opposed to 2019, where things got away from him time and time again. His 5.35/2.68/3.29 ERA/FIP/xFIP is a brutal gap in reasonable expectations versus results, but hopefully Kikcuhi’s numbers will begin to reflect the pitcher he’s looked like for most of his outings.

The Mariners lineup features mostly the usual suspects, with Evan White dropped a touch from where he’s often hit down to 8th, while Luis Torrens faces his former club in the 7th spot on the heels of a hot hitting start to his Mariners career. Ty France will hit 5th, while Austin Nola faces his old club in the three hole for one of the most fearsome lineups in MLB.
