After the Mariners unanimously voted to strike on Wednesday and not play their scheduled game with the San Diego Padres, the teams will play a doubleheader today. Taijuan Walker, who was slated to start yesterday’s game and likely would have been pushed to today, has been traded to the Blue Jays. Ljay Newsome will fill in today and get his first MLB start after making his debut in relief one week ago. Newsome, for those unaware, was a 26th round pick by the Mariners in 2015 and a staff favorite ‘round these parts.
Both games today will be a seven-inning affair, as is the custom for all doubleheaders this season. Newsome threw three innings in his debut on August 20 and has not pitched since then, so he should, theoretically, be rested. Greg Johns says that the M’s hope to get four or five innings from the 23-year-old. Yusei Kikuchi will still get the ball for the second game and remain on his usual schedule. We could also see Zac Grotz at some point soon, as Johns reported that he and José Marmolejos have been called up.
Mariners recall reliever Zac Grotz from alternate training site to take Taijuan Walker’s roster spot. INF/OF José Marmolejos appointed as "29th man" for today's doubleheader.

RHP Carl Edwards Jr. and LHP Taylor Guilbeau transferred to 45-day injured list.
The Dads will go with Dinelson Lamet, who you may remember for bringing a no-hitter into the seventh inning last year at T-Mobile Park.
