Hello, and welcome to Friday night baseball! It doesn’t feel like it, but this is the Mariners’ “home opener”.
While the Mariners haven’t lit the world on fire in the win column so far this year, many of the young players have played excitingly well, and they’ll look to continue doing so tonight. The Mariners are fresh off of two straight wins, and they find themselves a half-game out of the division lead as they play against one of the two leaders.
This will be the first time the Mariners face off against the A’s this year, who will be pitching lefty Sean Mannea. Mannea has been decent in his short career but is coming off a shortened 2019 after having shoulder surgey in 2018.
The Mariners are countering with Taijuan Walker, who has obviously had injury issues of his own.
Tim Lopes, on a torrid pace to start the season, will bat second tonight. Austin Nola returns from a short absence, which means that this is probably the best lineup the Mariners can muster right now. Sorry Mallex Smith, but yeah, Dylan Moore actually might be better at the moment.
