The 2020 BBWAA Award Season wrapped up last week. Around here, of course, we were very much aflutter for Kyle Lewis and his unanimous Rookie of the Year victory, so much so that I hardly paid attention to the rest of the awards knowing that no other Mariners players had a realistic shot at any of them. Oh, I guess I’d be remiss not to mention the Gold Glove wins by Evan White and J.P. Crawford, which are separate from the BBWAA awards, but still meaningful. But yes, guilty of one count of homer-ism, this guy (points to self). I regret nothing.
But! It got me thinking about how much stock others put into the BBWAA awards and which ones are the most meaningful. I know that when Félix Hernandez won the Cy Young in 2010, that meant the world to me for several reasons. A) It was Félix B) He was incredible that season while the rest of the team was utter dogshit C) Félix winning the award with a record of 13-12 was a huge moment for the awards in terms of not only focusing on traditional stats. So, I would argue that one was very significant not just for Mariners, but for baseball at large.

Once upon a time, the Rawlings Gold Glove award seemed to take offense into account when choosing winners. That has become much less important in recent years for the award. Should the Gold Glove awards take offense into account?
