The “Fall Frenzy” has almost wrapped up, with just two series left undetermined, no doubt to MLB’s chagrin. Those two series, however, get to shine in the spotlight, with the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins facing off after rain scuppered their scheduled tilt at Wrigley yesterday. The Marlins took a serious blow late on Wednesday, as a wild fastball from Dan Winkler fractured the veteran outfielder’s left pinkie. Marte hasn’t been a star since joining the fish, but he’s a solid player backed up by unproven options galore. The Marlins nonetheless have a 1-0 lead in the series, and could further their franchise unbeaten streak in the playoffs with an ace-level outing from 22 year old starter Sixto Sánchez. No pressure, kid. The Cubs counter with the potential National League Cy Young winner, Yu Darvish, who led the NL in fWAR in 76.0 innings and chipped in a 2.01 ERA to boot.
