It’s a new year and a new season approaches far more rapidly than you might think! The first Spring Training game is less than six weeks away! On February 22, the Mariners will take on their natural rivals, the dreaded San Diego Padres in a game that won’t count, but will still be a lot of fun* (*the definition of “fun” is subjective)!
So with that said, it’s time to make your pick for the player you think is going big in 2020.
Prompt: Who is your 2020 Mariners Breakout Player?

You can choose anyone on the MLB roster or in farm system. Or pick one of each, it’s up to you! If you were the gambling sort, who would you be doubling down on in 2020? Is Evan White going to stick at first base and make a splash in his rookie year? Is Justus Sheffield about to put it all together? Will Yusei Kikuchi learn from last season’s speed bumps and dial it in? What about those pitching prospects like Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Isaiah Campbell?
There are some more obvious choices out there, but let’s get in there and break it down. You could do it by position, too.
- Breakout starting pitcher
- Breakout reliever
- Breakout infielder
- Breakout outfielder
