They say all good things must come to an end, whether in life, baseball, or both. The last few days have provided glaring examples of this, as we grapple with the looming conclusion of Félix Hernández’s prolific career, the final days of August (objectively one of the best months), and the end of Major League Baseball’s sanity, as evidenced by the garbage uniforms they forced their players into this weekend.

I’m still not totally sure if Players’ Weekend is a good thing or not, but that is also coming to a close after today’s action. The Mariners look to take the series from their northern rival, who entrust 35-year-old Clay Buchholz to pitch a real life game that counts in the standings. He’s matched by Marco Gonzales, who makes just his second career start against the Jays.
