With the Mariners farm system more exciting than it’s been in years and a fresh new infusion of talent from both the Rule 4 draft and the July 2 international signing period, we have found it necessary to update our prospect rankings. We’re also taking this opportunity to make some changes to the way we rank prospects; we’re doing away with a numbered list and instead will be presenting the prospects this week in six tiers, similar to John Sickels’ letter grade system or FanGraphs’ FV system, in an effort to come closer to a 20-80 scouting scale. When creating our tiered list, we color-coded it for ease, something you’ll see when we release the complete list; for an explanation of the rubric used in assigning prospects to each tier, as well as the methodology used in creating the list itself, take a peep at the Introduction post.
We’ll be releasing one tier per day over the All-Star Week, so keep checking back for updates.
