We’ve got roster moves, folks!
#Mariners select INF Tim Lopes from AAA Tacoma. INF Dee Gordon has been placed on the 10-day IL (strained left quad).

RHP Parker Markel has been designated for assignment. Seattle’s 40-man roster remains at 40.

Another unfortunate and disappointing injury for Dee Gordon means that it’s time for Tim Lopes to make his Major League debut. Lopes will be the 6th player from the Mariners 2012 draft class to make the majors, although it appears it won’t be tonight as the team as already slotted Austin Nola at second base. Sure!

Per Tacoma Rainiers annoucer Mike Curto, Lopes has been enjoying hitting the PCL bouncy ball as of late:
Lopes is on a 14-game hitting streak in Tacoma, with four HRs in his last seven games. The last 11 games of this have been at home (not at high elevation PCL launching pads). https://t.co/a2iOxhgSVz

Parker Markel’s long major league journey appears to be over for the time being, although I could see a team maybe taking a flyer on him (or maybe he’ll just end up back in Tacoma). If you’re a Athletic subscriber and haven’t read this feature on Markel, I highly recommend it.
Last, but not least, the Everett AquaSox announced Jose Moreno’s replacement at manager as former (and very recent) Mariners draft pick Louis Boyd.
