There’s something about holiday weeks that throw my perception of time off. With the 4th of July last week and the All-Star Break this week, I’m all out of sorts and thought yesterday felt like Friday. Welcome to the real Friday, and welcome back baseball! Here are some links to help you through the day.
In Mariners news...
- Celebrate Edgar’s induction into Cooperstown with the Mariners:
Join us at the ballpark for a historic day in Mariners history.
— Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) July 11, 2019
Just $11. We'll have concessions specials, prize giveaways and more.

- The Sounders honor Edgar on Sunday:
A Seattle icon. @Mariners legend and soon-to-be @baseballhall inductee Edgar Martinez will lead us in "Scarves Up" on Sunday!

- Keith Law released his midseason top 50 prospects list. Julio Rodriguez made the list at 49th and Jarred Kelenic clocks in at number 8.
- The Ringer released their MLB midseason power ranking. Unsurprisingly, the Mariners find themselves in 25th.
- Read up on the Aqua Sox’s Cash Gladfelter:
A major growth spurt and a gradual appreciation for the sport placed Cash Gladfelter in the @Mariners organization.

In his second tour of duty with @EverettAquaSox, he's starting to gain his confidence.

Around the league...
- Jake Marisnick has received his suspension:

— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 11, 2019
- Remember when David Ortiz got shot and then we all kind of forgot about it? He underwent a third surgery yesterday:

- Danny Hultzen, currently in AAA Iowa with the Cubs organization, lost the race to avoid being the last 2011 first round pick to make the major leagues:
The Royals have selected the contract of Bubba Starling. He’ll be here tomorrow.

- The difference between languages and dialects is that dialects are mutually intelligible. That doesn’t mean there aren’t misunderstandings though:

- The Ringer takes a look at the onslaught of breakout hitters this season.
- Let’s check in on a former Mariner:
The Rockies rather quietly signed Yonder Alonso and he’s playing tonight for the Albuquerque Isotopes
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 12, 2019
- The internet is rife with tributes to Jim Bouton following his death on Wednesday. Here is just one of the many, this time from Jay Jaffe, that try to capture what he meant to baseball and to baseball writing.
Amanda’s Picks...
- I wasn’t even remotely a soccer fan 20 years ago, but I watched this live and it is seared into my memory. I love seeing it commemorated:
The Rose Bowl unveiled a statue commemorating Brandi Chastain and the 1999 Women's World Cup team on the 20th anniversary of their win.
— AJ+ (@ajplus) July 11, 2019
It depicts Chastain's iconic celebration after she scored the game-winning goal, ripped off her jersey and fell to her knees in joy. pic.twitter.com/oMcYggLfaz
- Two Seattle Storm players were named starters in the WNBA All-Star Game:
Natasha Howard and Jewell Loyd are WNBA All-Star starters. Well deserved. https://t.co/E7ZSMpDR9h
— Editor Joe Veyera (@JoeVeyera) July 11, 2019
- 2005 World All-Around Champion and 2008 US Olympic Team member Chellsie Memmel just casually breaking the gymternet:
Today’s fun at @precisionchoreo camp at GBC! The arabian double pike felt good last week so I thought I’d try a layout. Not to bad for only playing with these a few times. Talked over some technique, so hoping to get a better one tomorrow! #adultgymnastics #tumbltrak #tumbling pic.twitter.com/vMfnCXcwLn
