Fresh off of a nine-game road trip, the Mariners return home tonight to kick off a series against the Kansas City Royals. In case you don’t remember, the Mariners’ last meeting with the Royals went really well for the Mariners and really poorly for the Royals. As in, blow a two-run ninth inning lead, lose in the tenth inning, lose their tenth game in a row, and have their center field get injured on the play that lost them the game. Poorly.
Of course, that was also the game that put the Mariners up to 13-2 on the year, and everyone knows how things have gone for the Mariners since then (poorly). Thankfully for the Mariners, the Royals are still awful. They’re one of just five teams in Major League Baseball with a worse record than the Mariners. If you are rooting for the Mariners to win, this could be fun. If you’re in draft pick mode... well, Tayler Scott and Tommy Milone are going to pitch for the Mariners, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
Danny Duffy will be starting for the Royals. This will be his 17th year and 463rd game with the Royals.
Not really, but you had to think about it, right?
The Mariners will be running out virtually the exact same lineup as yesterday. The only difference is that Kyle Seager has been dropped in the lineup for Tom Murphy. I love Tom Murphy, but it feels a bit rude to Kyle. Sorry, Kyle.
