Congratulations, you’ve just witnessed the worst May played by a Mariners franchise in history. Given the lamentable history of many Mariners teams, that’s quite an achievement. Last night the Mariners went retro-chic and won a one-run game; tonight they’ll go retro chic-er and start Tommy Milone.

Some news: you may have noticed Jay Bruce is not in the lineup. That might be because a LHP is on the mound for the Angels, but that doesn’t stop the more tinfoil-hatted among us from speculating:
The Philadelphia Phillies are nearing a deal to acquire outfielder Jay Bruce from the Seattle Mariners, a club source familiar with the talks tells ESPN. The trade is expected to be finalized within the next 24 hours.

Passan later backed his thang up to say no actually, a deal is not imminent, but it’s a situation worth monitoring nonetheless.
In other news, Yusei Kikuchi will not make his next start as he continues to adjust to pitching in MLB. Per Ryan Divish, he won’t even make the one-inning “Opener” start:
The Mariners wanted to get him more of a physical and mental break instead of having him doing his normal preparation for a one-inning start.

Game info: Tonight’s game (this afternoon’s game?) is at 4:10, for reasons I don’t understand. Also heads up: tonight’s game is on FOX, not ROOT. You can still catch it on the radio at 710 ESPN, or online at MLB TV if you have a subscription and live in Eastern Manitoba (oh sorry I’m actually being told Manitoba is in the blackout area).
