Today we learned that Nelson Cruz will not make an appearance in this series, being placed on the IL today with a left wrist injury. Booooo. Fortunately (?), there’s still Mariners baseball to be played:

After a scintillating March/April, Marco Gonzales has scuffled in May, walking seven hitters in just 11.2 innings across three starts. With the Twins running out both a righty-heavy and fastball-mashing lineup, expect him to lean heavily on his changeup and cutter tonight, and hope that he has better command than since-optioned Erik Swanson did last night.

Going for the Twins is Martín Pérez, who has firmly settled into “veteran” territory at this point. After a tough, injury-hampered 2018, he’s rebounded nicely so far in his first year out of the Rangers’ organization, putting up a 3.48 FIP while striking out nearly a batter an inning. Pérez has put up the lowest ground ball rate of his career, so some homer regression might be due for him.
