After seventeen straight days of baseball, yesterday’s day off felt a bit strange. What do you mean, there’s no game? What else am I supposed to do at 7:10 PM? Read? Watch a .500 team play in the NBA playoffs? Nah.
Rejoice, for baseball is back, and it’s back in style: the Mariners will be taking on the San Diego Padres for their first taste of National League action in 2019. Hopefully the Dads don’t wear their camo uniforms. It might throw off the Mariners’ hitting if it looks like the ball is appearing out of thin air.
Here’s what the Mariners have come up with for the non-DH game.
The good: it seems as if Mitch Haniger will remain in the leadoff spot, which is definitely where he should be. The bad: without the DH, Daniel Vogelbach will be riding the pine tonight, as the Mariners can only afford to play two of their four first basemen instead of the usual three.
Erik Swanson will be getting his second MLB start. His first one was excellent: 6.0 IP, with five strikeouts and no walks.
