At the time I’m writing this, it is officially forty business days to the first Spring Training game, which feels bonkers; it’s not even the New Year yet! And yet, an ever-earlier Opening Day means an ever-earlier First Day of Spring Training (February 22nd, if you’re marking your calendar and making reservations), which means it’s time for the annual LL tradition of the 40 in 40. This year we have lots of players to write about who have never had a 40 in 40 profile before, and as the roster currently stands at 39, perhaps a new entrant before all is said and done. While the Mariners won’t be competing for a division title this year, they will be rolling out an exciting crop of young talent, some of whom aren’t yet on the 40-man (Logan Gilbert, Jarred Kelenic), and others (Justin Dunn, Evan White) who will get their first 40 in 40 profile this year. The days are getting longer and the 40 in 40 is here to see you into spring, so let’s all count down the days together until baseball is back.
