After two frightful, baseball-less nights, the game we love returns on its grandest stage with the showdown between the hated and arrogant Houston Astros and the joyful underdog Washington Nationals. I cannot convey enough how much I am enjoying how the latest of many Astros controversies is putting a gigantic exclamation mark on how unpleasant it has been to root for an AL West team during the ascension of the Astros. We deal with this shit all the time, but like in 2017, it’s only during the postseason and World Series does the rest of the baseball media and fan world seem to understand that “oh god, this team is a nightmare.” It’s reassuring to see that kind of shared understanding. It’s not just us!
I was on @OTLonESPN earlier today, and the sentiment conveyed doesn’t changes after the Astros’ second round of statements that equivocate, dance around the substance of the problem and “apologize” for language and offensiveness, not the root of the issue. pic.twitter.com/tocE2la706
