FPF- My Origin to Mariners Fandom

My story starts before my memory can recall. November 14, 1988. Born in Mount Vernon, WA, a 60 minute drive up I5 from the place I would come to know and love, the Kingdome.

My father a lifelong Washington resident followed in his father's footsteps and dedicated their fandom to the locals. The Mariners Sonics and Seahawks all coming to town before my birth and during the adult/ childhood years of my grandpa and dad. I attended my first Seahawks game shortly after birth ( I was told I was less than a month old). Seattle fandom was instilled in my DNA. Born into 50 yard line season tickets for the Seahawks. Springs and Summers belonged to Niehaus and the Mariners, Falls and Winters gave way to the Hawks, winter and Spring brought Colabro the Sonics. Radio, TV, or live, sports were a nightly event in those early years.

It my be played out and overused. 1995 and the double. In the car with my dad, listening to Dave as we had so many times before. A town that didnt know it belonged to baseball. Stopping dead in its track to hear magic in the mic. Dave stopped life in Seattle, hell stopped life in the PNW. To give us the greatest moment in Mariner history. Seattle became a baseball town in one short moment. That memory 6 years old, glued to the radio, next to my dad, my imagination running with the moment being fed into my ears. Dave, Griffey, Randy, Jay, Joey, Edgar, sweet Lou, Dan the Man, gave life to a city and the world to a 7 year old. We were kings in my mind and I knew Seattle was my team.

I was born a fan, in that moment It changed. Attached to my DNA, my childhood, my heroes.

From throwing pepperoni off the upper deck at Little League night, to being introduced to represent our Little League district on the field next to Griffey and Edgar. The hate of New York, the 116 wins, the new Park, the implosion, dave passing away, the loyalty of a King, and all the bad that has came with. I was born to root for the Mariners.

Seattle will one day stop in its tracks again for baseball. The bad will again fall to the good and another 30 years of my fandom will be reborn. Go M's.
