In which the Mariners go for a series win

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

As the season winds down and the Mariners find themselves all but eliminated, many have chosen to stop watching. I can’t blame them. I’m among them, more often than not. If you’re here, and if you’ve been watching this series, then you’ve at least been able to take solace in the decimation of the Angels.

For as bad a season as the Mariners have had, the Angels’ season has been somehow worse. Most famously, Shohei Ohtani is slated for Tommy John surgery, and the Angels are for some reason still choosing to play him nearly every day. In fact, here he is now!

Today's Lineups

Mitch Haniger - RF Kole Calhoun - RF
Jean Segura - SS David Fletcher - 2B
Robinson Cano - 2B Mike Trout - CF
Nelson Cruz - DH Shohei Ohtani - DH
Ryon Healy - 1B Justin Upton - LF
Mike Zunino - C Andrelton Simmons - SS
Cameron Maybin - LF Jose Miguel Fernandez - 1B
Kris Negron - 3B Francisco Arcia - C
Guillermo Heredia - CF Kaleb Cowart - 3B

It’s not a spectacular match up, but Erasmo Ramírez has pitched quite well over the last month or two. With most of the Mariner lineup being competitive (except you, Kristopher Negrón, and you, Cameron Maybin), tonight is an opportunity to lean back on a Saturday night and try to enjoy baseball for baseball’s sake. Oh, and for the sake of seeing the Mariners drag the Angels into purgatory with them.
