8/6/18: Open Game Thread

I can’t believe how often I used to write these on my phone.

A one game winning streak has visited the Mariners and the gravy train cannot be asked to stop tonight. The Texas Rangers are trapped in a grim situation, lacking the impact youth to suggest future stardom, with millions invested in average players. Most importantly, their pitching stinks to high heaven, a condition that is unlikely to improve with Keone Kela, Jacob Diekman, and Cole Hamels shipped off to the National League.

It is Seattle’s obligation tonight to help Texas to an early grave at Globe Life Park, and also probably have a quick hook with Wade LeBlanc in Texas. The Rangers are boldly running both their catchers in the starting lineup, which is about the most exciting thing that can be noted on their lineup. Dee Gordon and Shin-Soo Choo represent what potentially may be the greatest disparity in play style/foot speed in the history of leadoff hitters.

Some additional pertinent notes: Robinson Canó is playing tonight! In Tacoma! At 1st base! That game can be monitored on MiLB.com.

He’ll also play in tomorrow’s day game, then make a few more starts for the Everett Aquasox so as to remain local. If you’re interested in seeing him and contributing to a good cause (beating 710 AM in a maple syrup-based bet, and also Alzheimer’s research), come join us in Everett on Friday!

I know many of you have been to minor league games before. What was your first game? How would you entice ambivalent attendees?
