Well, here we are: it’s the end of August. The Mariners have taken a bit of a bizarre path to reach this point, but we’re heading into the home stretch and the team is 4.5 games out a playoff spot, with six games remaining against the team they’re trying to catch.
And, lo and behold, here is one of those six games! Gee, it sure would be sweet to win it! A loss would (I’m guessing, so don’t correct me with numbers) cut the team’s playoff chances approximately in half. Maybe less, maybe more. The point is, it would hurt. So, you know, win.
Lineups!
Still no Jean Segura in the lineup. Matt Chapman looked extremely mortal yesterday, so it would be cool for that to continue. The A’s have also called up rookie outfielder Dustin Fowler (while optioning last night’s starter, Frankie Montas). Fowler will be leading off tonight, and has been demolishing triple-A pitching.
