Hey everyone! Things haven’t been great for Mariners baseball lately but the links keep on rolling. Here’s today’s batch.
In Mariners news...
- In case you missed it, congratulations to Jean on the career milestone!
Mariners' Jean, Jean Segura now has 1,000 career hits.
— TJ Cotterill (@TJCotterill) August 29, 2018
- James Paxton should return on schedule.
Paxton threw a 45 pitch bullpen yesterday and turned it up a little more than he normally does in a pen. All went well. Should start Sat. in Oakland.
— Shannon Drayer (@shannondrayer) August 29, 2018
- Here are some fun Mariners stats...
Did I tell you Mitch Haniger has more hits in August (38) than anyone else on the planet?
— Corey Brock (@CoreyBrockMLB) August 29, 2018
For context: Ichiro once had 56 hits in one August (2004).
— Corey Brock (@CoreyBrockMLB) August 29, 2018
- Congratulations, Joey!
Double-A Arkansas first baseman Joey Curletta picked as Texas League player of the year.

Wins: 8
WAR: 8.3
- Well this is interesting.
#Yankees just announced the opening of the Stadium’s first wine bar. It will have a “cask-themed aesthetic.” Come a long way from throwing batteries in the Bronx.
— David Lennon (@DPLennon) August 29, 2018
- This could spell trouble for Cleveland.
Oh-oh: The Cleveland Indians placed left-handed reliever Andrew Miller back on the DL with shoulder impingement. It's the third time this season he has gone on the DL.
— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) August 29, 2018
- AJ Hinch is sticking around.
MLB sources: The #Astros will announce tomorrow they've signed manager AJ Hinch to a contract extension.
— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) August 29, 2018
- Albert Pujols is missing the rest of the season with a knee injury. His history with the Angels has not been great.
Pujols had surgery on that knee in 2012, after his first season with the Angels. He also had surgery on his right foot in 2015 and 2016. He has three years and $57 million left on his contract with the Angels.
— Bill Shaikin (@BillShaikin) August 30, 2018
- Christian Yelich became the second player to hit for the cycle this season.
- René Rivera moves from the Angels to the Braves in an August waiver deal. The Braves have also acquired first baseman Lucas Duda from the Royals.
Anders’ picks...
- The soccer star and Seattle resident is calling it a career.
Clint Dempsey has announced his retirement, effective immediately

- Meanwhile in the NFL...
Crazy scene: #Jets players were on the bus when they stopped, told Teddy Bridgewater he’d been traded, he waved goodbye, then they drove off, source said. Bridgewater headed to the #Saints. Wild.
