Tonight, the Mariners begin the biggest series of their season thus far. On the one hand, this is a shining opportunity to leapfrog the A’s and reclaim their second Wild Card spot. On the other hand, the series has to be played in a sewage heap. But good news! Andrew Romine is starting at second base in place of the recently-scratched Dee Gordon. Wait...that’s probably not good news.
Marco Gonzales opposes Sean Manaea in a matchup of southpaws that I’d guess most of the country is ignorantly unfamiliar with. Joke’s on them. While the east coast sleeps soundly, I’ll be watching lefty changeup after lefty changeup, hoping for a Ryon Healy revenge game, and wondering what the Mariners have to do to turn Khris Davis back into a pumpkin.
