Today brings the Mariners’ last home game before the All-Star break, a game in which all children 14-and-under are invited to run the bases afterward. Fantastic, you love to see that.
Me? I will be watching from my apartment that screams “high school senior recently won the lottery.” To quote Taylor Tomlinson, “being in your 20s is like having a virus: you can’t do anything, you just have to wait until you’re better.”
To this point, this series has shown the early stages of a virus that the Mariners need to address. They’ll send out five twentysomethings to handle the job, with wise elders providing the support.
Wade LeBlanc is one of the veterans tasked with stopping the virus before it spreads. He’ll oppose Antonio Senzatela, the Rockies’ starting pitcher who was born just a handful of months before the Mariners signed Joey Cora. Seattle, mercifully, rolls out a starting nine that’s about as full strength as it’ll get right now. Everyone please make sure to wash your hands and cover all coughs and sneezes before this whimsical little sickness becomes anything worse.
